My Beauty Uniform
Who is Debbie Simmonds-Barber: I was born in Jamaica and raised in South Florida. I'm 46 years old. I'm a veteran educator of 21 years. I am married and have three beautiful children. My youngest child is on the autistic spectrum, so I consider myself trusted by God. Autistic parents are specially chosen to care for these beautiful human beings. I love writing, fashion, creating, cooking, laughing, and spending time with family. Sometimes I'm fascinated by the idea of social media, yet other times I find it repulsive. So, I throw in the towel and recharge. I'm a lover, but I stand my ground when opposition presents itself.
What’s your beauty philosophy? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone can be beautiful.
Who are your beauty icons? Pam Grier as Foxy Brown and Angela Basset
What everyday products do you swear by?
Black Opal True Color under eye concealer
Ruby Kisses Pressed Powder with Salicylic Acid (if I could do without this, I would, but it seals my oily pores)
Ruby Kisses Auto Eye Liner and Lip Liner
Matte Dark Plum Lipstick (outer lip)
NYX butter gloss (inner lip)
DBior Lashes and Facial Rosewater & Glycerin Mist
I apply these products in 10 to 15 minutes tops.
What advice would you give colored girls who face challenges with recognizing their beauty? Love the skin you're in. Your beauty is intentional. Shine unapologetically.
P.S. More women share their beauty uniforms, including financial analyst Thea James, gym lover Amanda McFarlane, realtor Sandra Simmonds and college student Kendra Short
