Starting a small nail salon business

With the thrill of new summer movie releases, events and traveling plans, comes the demand of nail salons and travel nail salon technicians. According to Statista Research, the U.S. nail salon industry doesn't seem like it's going away no time soon. These services will always be in high demand because the fashion world thrives off of manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails and the vast number of products to execute these services such as nail polish, gel polish, base coats, dryers and other nail care products and accessories. This small nail business might just be one of the best, biggest and fastest entries into the booming beauty industry.

We interviewed a black owned nail salon technician who's making a difference in the industry with her unique styles. This determined, self-taught nail technician delivers nothing less than top tier quality nail designs. And has built a cliental of satisfied, repeat customers.

These nail designs are a staple in the beauty and fashion industry. I sat with a beautiful, young lady, to gain some insight for others who share the same business mindset as her.

Business inspiration?

"I got tired of going to nail shops. I went so much I started to get intrigued by how easy it looked. I had just registered for college courses but was on a short break. On that break, I studied the art of design by watching YouTube and other social media videos and practiced on my dummy nails. After I felt like I learned enough I signed up for a hands-on training session from one of the most popular nail salons in my area. I asked my aunt to be my nail model for the 4-hour training session. She was hesitant, but she said yes. After the training, I spent a month or so practicing on family and friends for free. I knew this industry was competitive -- because there are 2 nail salons on every street. Once I felt comfortable enough, I launched my business and was booked out immediately. My nails are unique. I give my customers anything they want in a nail design - I've learned to do it all."
